Taqi Shaheen

Taqi Shaheen is a Pakistani designer, artist, and educator, whose personal work focuses on visual storytelling, graphic design, and cultural commentary. His artistic practice often delves into themes related to identity, social justice, and political landscapes, exploring how design can communicate complex, often nuanced ideas. Shaheen is particularly interested in how visual language shapes our understanding of culture and the world around us.

In his personal work, Shaheen combines illustration, typography, and graphic design to create pieces that reflect Pakistan's multifaceted cultural and social identity. His work pushes the boundaries of conventional design by addressing sensitive social and political issues, offering a reflective and sometimes critical perspective on contemporary life in Pakistan. He is also involved in curating and teaching, particularly focused on guiding students in using design as a tool for social commentary.

Regarding his involvement with the Subjective Atlas of Pakistan (published in 2018), Shaheen’s contribution is rooted in his interest in how maps, both literal and metaphorical, can convey complex notions of national identity. His work in the project highlights the power of visual media in shaping our understanding of a country's social and political landscape, contributing to a broader conversation on how subjective viewpoints can offer an understanding of national identity.
