Wouter Stroef
Wouter Stroet is a Dutch designer, filmmaker, and activist known for his involvement in community-based projects that address housing justice and urban development. In his work, he collaborates closely with local communities, including organizations like Verdedig Noord and Mokum Kraakt, to raise awareness and advocate for equitable housing solutions. His work often challenges traditional views of architecture and urban development, using cartography and digital design to question authority, focus, and the narrative of progress.
For the Subjective Atlas of Amsterdam (published in 2023), Stroet played a crucial role in both the development and design processes. The project, initiated by Arcam (Architecture Center Amsterdam), aimed to present Amsterdam through the eyes of its residents, capturing a diverse range of experiences and perspectives. Stroet's graphic design expertise and visual guidance were instrumental in bringing these subjective maps to life, ensuring that the final publication authentically reflected the city's multifaceted identity.
